However, it wasn’t until the late 1800’s that belly dancing was introduced to the European world. Unfortunately, the next seven decades would see a large mischaracterization of what belly dance is, leading to massive misconception from those in the West. Luckily, that is changing. Today, belly dancing is a respected cultural dance that many people embrace as a way to explore their bodies, femininity, and spirituality.
